Oliver's 8th
Golf Day
Join us on the green to honour Oliver's legacy. A day of golf, good company and fundraising for Children's Hospice South West.
Our Story
At just 11 years old, Oliver Brown made national headlines after he was diagnosed with an extremely rare disease called Myelodysplastic Syndrome — a blood cancer affecting four children per million worldwide. Oliver developed the disease aged eight, as a result of a complicated genetic disorder relating to his GATA2 gene, which also resulted in Oliver being born deaf. Over the following three years, Oliver underwent two bone marrow transplants and long periods of treatment at Bristol Children's Hospital.
In May 2019, Oliver and his family were given the news that the cancer had returned and that there were no further curative options available. Oliver filled his last few months with fun, love and incredible experiences before finally celebrating Christmas two months early in October 2019 at Little Harbour Children's Hospice, where he stayed until he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on 2 October 2019.
The money you raise with us goes to Children's Hospice South West. This amazing charity cares for children with life-limiting conditions and their whole families across the South West — providing respite and short breaks, emergency care, palliative care and end of life care.
Thank you for supporting us.
